Seasons
Spring Season - March 15 - April - May
Spring season is a time of refreshing renewal as the grass greens and the baby calves run and jump over the fields and as they follow their mothers. It is one of the busiest times as most of us are famers as well as ranchersl Not only are we gettting cattle ready to move to holding pasture. We are busy getting ground ready to plant and getting the pasture fences in shape for the cattle to go out on. Lots to do . Come join in the busy fun.
Depending on how far the pasture is, we will either drive them with horses or trailer them to the pasture in April or first part of May. From May through June we check cattle on horseback looking for hurt or sick ones.
Spring also brings rodeo season. Be sure to check out our Special Events to see if you want to include anything extra in your package.
Summer Season - June - July - August
Summer is our hottest months and once again we are getting ready to harvest wheat but are still planting late crops like milo and beans after wheat has been harvested.Wheat harvest is usually from June 20 up to July 4th depending on the weather. While all this is going on someone needs to check pastures at least 3 times a week if not more often . We make sure cattle have not eaten it down too much, putting out salt, minerals, making sure water is okay,
checking for any that might need doctoring and of course checking fences as we go by that might need repaired.
Rodeo season will take us through end of August so be sure to check our the Special Events.

Fall Season - September - October - November
September sees us getting into full fall harvest of corn and milo, planting wheat putting up silage for feeding in the winter and feed lots. While all this is going on we are putting up electric fences around the stalk pastures.
Round up time starts in September through November. We move cattle off pastures moving them to holding pastures where we then sort calves from mothers so they can be weaned, giving them inoculations & branded.
The cows are then moved to stalks or other pastures. The calves are then either sold or put into a feed lot for further growth up to 1200 to 1300 #.
Fall is a neat time of year. Trees start turning, the heat is so that you can be outside all day up until night.
Fall is the hunting seasons for turkey, pheasant, quail, and doves.
Winter Season December-January-February-March 15
December is time checking electric fences to make sure they are hot. When cattle have eaten everything we move them to another field or pasture. Water is very important in the winter. We make sure the water is broken free of ice and that waters have not frozen.
January some calving starts, especially with first year heifers. They are usually brought closer to the barn so you can watch for signs of trouble having their calf and also for protection from the weather. We continue with all the same chores as in December.
February Middle to last part of February calving gets serious. Everywhere there are the baby calves running and playing.
Calving will last through March April & May depending on when the rancher puts the bulls in with the cows.
